New Employee at the Hosptial

I am an official employee of:

I recently was offered a job as a Child Life Specialist. Don't worry, I won't be leaving my kids for a job. I am in a supplemental role so I will only be filling in when needed. This is a dream I have been working for since 2000. It has been a long haul!!!
So for those of you who have never heard of a child life specialist here is just a breif description of just a part of what I do:
"A hospital can be a scary place. Helping kids cope with stress and uncertainty is what child life specialists do best. They assess needs and explain what is about to happen, using age-appropriate language and medical play. They calm fearful patients with relaxation and distraction techniques. Soon that scary place isn't so scary anymore."
If you want more information, I have plenty and I could talk your ear off- I have a lot of passion for what I do.

That's terrific! I met another Child Life Specialist through a mom's group I attend here, and she was pleased when I told her I knew of someone else who was one as well (you). What a wonderful opportunity to use your skills and be a blessing to children and helping them feel comfortable during their hospital stay.

Glad you are finally getting to be a Child Life Specialist. That will be great to have the experience and help if you ever pursue it full time when the kids are grown up. How often will you likely be working and what hours?

Hey there! Ollie and I are really enjoying looking at pictures of Ashlyn and Dylan (for some reason Corbin is sort of off his radar, sorry buddy). He says that Dylan and Ashlyn are "good popsicle men" meaning they are guys who like to eat popsicles. I keep reminding him that Ashlyn is a girl.

Congrats on this job. I think it will really be a blessing to your family. I think it is so important that your kids see you are making a difference in the world outside your home.
