We have a huge cupboard designated only for snacks. However, I have realized it looks a little too much like this:
Which is a lot different than I want it to be. This makes snack time a dreaded time and it also makes me feel like I am unsuccessful as a parent by feeding my kids junk just because it is easy. Please help me out by letting me know what some of your favorite snack ideas are?

Snacks are so tough! We have lame things like pretzels, yogurt, nuts, fruit, baby carrots, toast, or oyster crackers. I am the type that if the food is in the house, I will eat it, so I try to stay away from cookies, graham crackers, chips, etc.--for the cost as well. Don't be too hard on yourself--we all have those parent guilt trips about a particular issue we feel we need to improve on...at least I do!
i really like this idea:

either for a meal or for snacks. mckinlay really likes to pick, dip and have options, so this way she can have a little of a lot of things then the rest can be saved for the next day.
if she knows we have something she asks for it, so i try to let her know we have fresh fruit and stuff so she'll ask for it, then i'm not forcing her to eat what i want her to.
{but of course, she definitely eats her share of chocolate chips, cookies and pirate's booty. :)}
Fruit leather & dried fruit are some of my kids favorites. Also, nuts, string cheese, popcorn, carrots, granola bars, trail mix. I just don't buy chips or store bought cookies much, then they aren't around to tempt us.
snack time is hard. I feel the same way that you do. good suggestions though, from other comments!
Some easy, healthy things we like are 1)a bag of cut up celery and carrots that I cut up at the beginning of the week. I try to cut them in different ways (shapes) to make it more interesting. 2)Organic applesauce in individual containers, you could even put food coloring in it to make it more fun. 3)cottage cheese 4)I usually use a melon baller and make balls of cantelope, watermelon, honeydo, and put them in a container for the week. 5)Fruit cabobs. 6) Popcorn. Really, any fruit or veggie you could cut up at the beginning of the week and put them in individual baggies for easy, quick delivery. Good luck! It's a great thing you are doing and your kids will appreciate it even though they won't know it!!
I know what you mean about the easy snack food. I'm not a snack expert by any means. Kate would much rather have pretzels or goldfish than other things. Some of our healthier snacks that haven't already mentioned are sliced apples (we eat so many apples!), mini rice cakes, fruit, carrots & ranch. I remembered the other day that Kate loved to eat things with toothpicks stuck in it. So, sometimes I stab fruit with toothpicks. Anyway...Looking forward to reading everyone's ideas.
Here's what we like that no one's mentioned: olives, fig newton cookie/bars, frozen grapes, & canned mandarin oranges. Gotta love feeding kids!
Michal - lately after school my kids are STARVING, but it's only 4:00 and dinner isn't for another hour. So I'll set out a bowl of raw veggies - carrots, cucumbers, celery, broccoli (whatever I have). I'm amazed at how they'll gobble up their veggies when there's nothing else available. Kendy :)
Thanks for the suggestions:) My pantry looks a little too familiar to your post!
