Home Again

Last weekend I took a trip back to...

Boston!

After living there I had hoped that a trip back would be relaxing and enjoyable- especially with no kids. However, Boston is still the crazy city that I left it. I still don't have it figured out. I was there to attend my first Child Life Conference. The generous Seely's put me up! Thanks a lot you guys! The weather was much better than I had dreamed it could be in May, I got to enjoy a few edifying classes, and a run down the Charles topped it all off!

I also got to see the Christopher's and the Pugh's! I miss you all! And I even got so go see this little guy...

Zachary Christopher. Born April 26th at 25 weeks gestation. What a fighter!

Should I Start a New Blog?

A few months back I was blogging far too much about my running and for a moment entertained the idea of starting another blog (to spare you all the boredom.) Then I thought "now that is silly, I would never have time to keep up two blogs!" But now I am considering a new blog idea: "all the health ailments of the Thompson family." Let me know what you think! I really would have plenty to say on this blog- for some reason it never ends. I am not complaining, merely, I think it quite funny.

On Friday I went in for my last consult before my tonsillectomy (that I am deathly afraid of- not the ectomy part they recovery part!) I have been reading on line and it is a good two week recovery. DO YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS??? For me that is almost as bad as having a baby! Boy will that ruin my running schedule! JK! A doctor at work had put a few ?'s into my head and brought them up with my ENT. She helped me rule them out and realize that it just might be best to get them out. My lymph nodes are always swollen- meaning they are in overdrive all the time working on something. So really it is not just the strep that is getting to me. With little kids at home and at work, the germs are never ending! (Note: I really think we had a bad run of strep that "crinkled" my tonsils, Thank You Cleveland!)

Right before we said goodbye I asked her to do me one last favor- to look at Dylan's tonsils. Bad move! Dylan's best friend got his taken out because of snoring problems and I know Dylan snores but not that bad. I have notices his are big and pointed them out to one of the many pediatricians we've had (can't remember which) who told me it was nothing to worry about. So I wanted an expert opinion, and it was on my appointment clock. She took one look at his mouth and said "those should come out, those are called 'kissing tonsils'" (and he's not even sick.) She went on to look at Ashlyn's- same surprised expression. She already knew what Corbin's looked like and added that his were also abnormally large. However, this is not something to be concerned about if there are not any other underlying problems. However, with Dylan, he has had some allergy symptoms, has bags under his eyes (which I hadn't even noticed), a snoring problem and he doesn't sleep much. All of which she believes are connected to his Tonsils. Needless to say, I came out with more than I bargained for. So the question of the day is: Should Dylan and I go in together?

Disclaimer: In my prior post, note- those are NOT my tonsils, just a picture on the Internet. I would never do that to you! And don't worry, I won't put a picture of Dylan's tonsil on here either, they are too big for my camera- literally! I knew I wasn't crazy!

Adding to Corbin's List

A few weeks ago Corbin burned his right hand pretty bad. We now know that somewhere on the outside of our grill, down low it is pretty hot! Hard way to learn huh! From seeing burns at work I knew that really only time can heal a burn like this. We spent a lot of time taking care of his right hand we didn't notice the left one. The next morning it too was blistered but not quite as bad. So as you can imagine he has been babying his right hand and learning to do a lot with his left hand. We found out he throws almost as well as Dylan did with his left!!

Sadly, after weeks of bandages and ointments he added a few scars to that right hand. He got a pretty good size blood blister right on top of the old blister, then the day after that popped he got a cut from falling and landing on this same hand. He falls all the time (isn't that assumed with a new walker) and catches himself with his hand, but this time it blead profusely!

So, sadly, Corbin has continued to add to his long list of ailments this last year. We are still anxiously awaiting a healthy spell!

Mommy Dear

I am excited to have a great excuse to brag about my mom. She is my hero and the person I would most like to be like. As I have grown older I have come to realize how many wonderful strengths and attributes she has- all of which I hope have genetically transferred to me. However- Most of them were through her own hard work and determination.

So a little bit about my mom:
I won't say how old she is but she doesn't look it. She worked hard to gain a Masters in Physical Therapy, one that would bless her throughout her life. She taught me that education is important. She met my dad on the Ballroom dance team at BYU. She served over 20 years in the Army. I loved bragging to my friends that my MOM was in the army! She is now serving as the RS president in her ward. I know this is because she has such a big heart. I have NEVER heard her complain or judge anyone. She is an amazing athlete- she has done countless triathlons and always wins her Gender/age category. She even organizes a triathlon group in her ward and an actual triathlon for them! She loves her family with all her heart- I am grateful for all that she sacrificed to be home with us and she was an amazing mother! I am so glad I had an example like her so that I can be a good mother. My mother is a convert- her dedication and decision to be baptized meant that her father would disown her for a few years. However, we know her example then has won him over today! I am grateful for the gospel in my life because of the hard decisions she made. She is never afraid to try new things (she went out and learned how to windsurf) and to do things on her own. She kept up with my dad in all the hiking, backpacking, camping, canoeing, kayaking he did and even with all the little kids. She was constantly fixing things and doing things my dad would have done when he didn't have the time. I have so many wonderful memories of family vacations, bedtime talks and teaching moments with my mom growing up. All four of her kids are successful and accomplished people- a great feat and I know it is because of her. She has made it possible for me to look forward to the future with excitement.

As you can see I have an amazing mom and her talents are endless. I am grateful for the woman she is and the spiritual strength that she has to endure all the trials in her life. She is a party to be around and I love her dearly!

A Record

Sorry for the graphic picture. This is what my mouth looks like- yep, strep again! This is the third time since Jan 1st of THIS year. And the 8th time in a year and a half. It does not help my chances that I work in a Children's ER. So that is where I picked it up when working on Saturday! So today I scheduled my tonsillectomy. I have been dragging my feet, but as you can see it hasn't done me any good. I am not excited, I have heard recovery it pretty ugly. But will it be better than having strep every 6 weeks, and risking passing it onto my family?
